Actually, yes. What Raimi had in mind for the third film is completely different than what actually came out. The bulk of the film was forced onto him by Avi Arad who insisted on the whole "alien symbiote/Venom" plot for merchandising reasons. Raimi had no interest in even touching the character.

This is common knowledge by now.

Amazing Spider-Man was a more realistic, darker portrayal of the character while still managing to retain the levity and sarcasm characteristic of the title role
