Fantasy (and sometimes sci-fi) is just really looked down upon by some people who are into classic literature. I know when I was still at film school and wanted to write sci-fi/fantasy plots, people really looked at me like I had gone mad for wanting to write that.

The problem with some genres is that they have a history of being published a pulp fiction, and never quite outgrew that reputation.

But mostly I just consider this disdain for certain genres snobbish.

A good writer is a good writer. Period.

There's tons of drama, romance historical fiction out there that is crap, too.
