Have you read Tanith Lee's The Silver Metal Lover? And I think there is actually a sequel, though I've never seen it. It is m/f, though.

Also, check out C.L. Moore's "No Woman Born" if you haven't already. Though there's no sex, probably because it's Golden Age, old-school SF. But it's so rich with other ideas about what makes us human, and then there's this fascinating subplot with the (male) engineer who designed Deirdre's cyborg body trying to control her, and her creativity, "for her own good." Oh, just read it! You won't be sorry.
