No, really, why? Why is he treated like a god by modern viewers? We got to see Asgard in Thor. They're just super-strong aliens with super-advanced tech that sometimes looks like magic-y powers and a slightly Viking-esque culture. Nothing "godlike" about them. They'd fit right into, like, Star Trek. Could see them being worshipped by ancient humans, but not modern ones. They don't have the "I do what I want" mentality of real mythological gods, they have morals and rules and codes that are very similar to that of humans.

Not quite. It's not "you call it magic because you don't yet understand" it's more like "You still think there's a difference between the two? There's magic making all the physics work and there's a science to the magic. Figure that out and you'll make both better"

But they are treated like gods instead of wizards because...? There's nothing godlike about them in the movieverse.

Because people how know Norse myths are used to thinking of them as gods even if they hadn't believed them to be real?

I don't mean in-universe people, I mean viewers. There's absolutely no reason for viewers to think of them as gods.

While it's true that universe #616 is not #199999 (Main marvel comic and move reality numbers respectively), the latter has, to most of us comics fans, captured the spirit of the former in ways the other movies simply have not.

As such, we tend to default to comic assumptions. In in the comics, they are gods.

because i'm vaguely aware they're gods from myth and assume they must therefore be gods. They don't seem to die by normal means and I'm no believe in gods in reality. So it's easy for me to accept fictional gods in fantasy.

The movie makes it clear that in the movieverse, they are highly advanced aliens (hence the not dying by means that would kill humans, who are not as strong or tough as they are), who visited earth on occasion and were worshipped as gods by the Vikings, who were too primitive to understand, and entered myth because of THAT not because "they must be gods" (lol what the fuck kind of assumption is that?). They do NOT interact with humans as though they were gods or rule over them or ask that humans worship them or do anything godlike other than be powerful.
