I never considered it weird. I think it's really interesting the relationships humans can have with a machine, what makes someone more than just electronic signals in the brain/circuitboard, and what affect that has on society around the characters. It's one of my favorite storylines.

It's about a cop and his android partner, J. The woman to the left is his maintenance help. Her father designed him, but she really has a big soft spot for the machine. It's not really about /them/, but they do play a big part in the series. ^_^
