His life was made into living hell by netizens and the whole Tajinyo movement. He was depressed, afraid for the life of his newborn daughter, all the works.
Not to mention running Map the Soul even in a non-hostile environment was tough work; they would work supremely long hours and even then the future of the company was constantly on knife's edge, even with fan support. Independent record labels in Korea are super-rare.
Going back to it just wasn't an option for him, mentally nor physically. Taking YG offer wasn't selling out as much as it was just continuing to make music, which was probably a huge lifeline for him at that point. It also allowed him to focus on the music, rather than the bs that goes with running your own business, which can be stressful, even with support from other people around you.
I'm glad he got back to making music, no matter what platform it's on. Map the Soul was terrific and I supported that whole effort as much as I could but I'd also rather they not kill themselves with work that isn't about the music, which is what running a business always entails.
And songs like "Dear TV" prove he's not exactly softening whatever he has to say for YG, though the album also has hit songs.
