They are my OTP, so in that way, I totally agree with you that I don't know why more people aren't shipping them (also that they are very pretty!). However, I do kind of know why, Part of it is that in general, sitcom shipping does tend to go to het. Another is probably the reason you mentioned involving race unfortunately. There is no denying that a lot of the super popular slash ships out there are between two white dudes, baring a few anime ones.

People get drawn into fandoms all of the time with the promise of a good slash ship, a good example of this being the recent popularity explosion of Teen Wolf, mostly from Sterek fans. That really hasn't happened with Community, and I think those two reasons are part of it. Slashers are generally more drawn to dramas and white dudes. Also, Community is just a weird as fuck show, so not many people are drawn to it in general.

At the very least, I'd say about 90% of the fic and fanart out there for them is pretty good, and I've met so many lovely people in this ship. I'm happy that at least we aren't too wanky, even if we are small!

This is a really good explanation, actually, and it's noting a lot of trends that I've always known about but never really put into words; that slash fans tend to seek out fandoms with slashy dynamics and get into things sometimes purely for the slashiness. It's easier to watch a bland drama with something ship-worthy than a quirky comedy show (even though, honestly I think the ship fanservice with Abed/Troy is actually better than a lot of those slash-ship driven fandoms' canons).

Then, I've also noticed that I used to do that myself, but rarely do it these days. Subtext gets tiring, eventually you want text or nothing at all..

By the way, love your Donald Glover icon! One of my favourites to recognize on F!S.
