I get that people disagree about his attractiveness in other movies/TV shows/etc., but why are people commenting on his looks for this one? Isn't he going to be Smaug? The dragon? CGI, motion capture, that kind of stuff? In other words, he's going to be a dragon face, right? We're not going to see his actual face, right? So why are we talking about his looks in relation to this movie?

Aside from the whole reality that we won't actually "see" BC without squinting really hard, it won't be until the 3rd movie, will it? Smaug is in the last part of the Hobbit, IIRC, and the Hobbit is being stretched into 3 films, which I believe is going to be excruciatingly painful to the purists in any case.

Why is there any problem with this? I really don't understand the upset.

I see that this means approx. 3 yrs before BC's appearance. The sherlock fandom is hot but not necessarily going to last. It may not even be a very active fandom in three years. Why is there such a hate-on for this issue?

There are a lot of not-conventionally-attractive people who are actors of note. Why talk down about any of them? They have a job to do, they generally do it well enough to keep themselves employed. I don't think BC is a bad actor. I don't think he's unattractive (an opinion that is liable to elicit flames, lol) but I doubt I'm risking deformed offspring by looking at him (a la John Merrick).

I just don't get the bile being spewed. He took a job. It's the darn directors/producers who make the decisions. Why isn't anyone offering hate for Peter Jackson's choices and decisions?

Three movies isn't going to make a better addition to the franchise, but it will generate a crap tonne of money, won't it?
