I got a shiny new fandom, yay! A friend of mine started an AU, discussed it with fellow fans, people around found it more interesting than the original series and lo and behold, soon it turned into a collective semi-original project, welcoming new fans and participants with open arms. Hooray!
...Except for me.
There's been a string of newcomers lately, amongst whom I'm the only one the AU's creator takes no interest for. What am I doing wrong...

*hugs* I'm sorry, anon. I don't have advice for you, but maybe it's like the anon who posted that secret below, about being older than zir fandom "friends"? Try finding some other communities on LJ or tumblr (or the internet in general), ones that aren't so insular.

Maybe this friend doesn't realize that you felt that sharing or being part of this project was important to you.

Maybe they're a jerk.

There are many possible explanations.

I know that it's easier said than done, but have you asked them if you can help out with the project because it sounds exciting and you felt a little left out?

You can use their answer as a measuring stick of the attention they pay to you, and then use that to decide if you want to keep being friends with them or not, because, even if they didn't mean to neglect you this way, there's no point in you staying in a relationship that is making you feel like this, and if you're not seeing eye to eye on the needs of each other and they don't care to rectify that, then... Yeah, time to find new friends.

I asked. They said "oh yeah, great!" and then... nothing more. Other people's fics & arts, they comment. Mine, they ignore.
