1. I've had to change some of the characters in my novel for that reason. It hurts a lot, but I can't stand them being rip-offs.

11. Oh god that IS creepy looking. 8| kgafagk GET IT AWAY. :(

17. YOU BEAT ME TO IT. I WAS ABOUT TO MAKE A SECRET ABOUT THAT. *_* Near-mun is absolutely amazing. Her logs are great; the way she plays him is AWESOME. I just want more Near-surveys. X3 They're like the best kind of crack, and I love seeing how everyone responds.

20. I would honestly LOVE to see this. It sounds fascinating. ♥

[identity profile] poissonlune.livejournal.com 2007-08-01 12:21 am (UTC)(link)
11. .... yes, so much yes. This is partly why I can't slash characters in shows that have real people playing them. O_O

I agree that RPS is creepy, but why not leave people their creativity? I'd like to know how photomanipulation isn't art...

DAMN YOU BEAT ME TO IT

[identity profile] aviy.livejournal.com 2007-08-01 12:30 am (UTC)(link)
ONE ONE HAND I think you should tell your circle of friends to shove it! Playing with characters who DON'T have perfect personalities, NAY, MAY EVEN BE INCREDIBLY ANNOYING is awesome. =\ The whole idea of RP is to see characters interact, it's dumb to say WE WON'T INTERACT WITH ANNOYING PERSONALITIES.

But. since sometimes one should not tell one's friends to shove it. Why? There are a horde of RPs out there and the majority of them have fairly easy acceptance.

[identity profile] klytaemnestra.livejournal.com 2007-08-01 12:31 am (UTC)(link)

Well, it's reached the point in the art community where photomanipulation is all too often passed off as digital art when it simply is not. There's a huge difference between drawing something and painting it digitally and taking stock photos and painting over them. Very rarely do you see good photomanipulation, most of it looks plastic and I personally don't consider it art by a long shot.

[identity profile] colortheory.livejournal.com 2007-08-01 12:32 am (UTC)(link)
11. THANK YOU. I agree completely. The hobbit!porn manips that people did for Lord of the Rings a few years back were even worse.

Don't worry; I talk to her occasionally on AIM (where she just keeps talking about her own fandom, of course) but it's not more than very loose back-and-forth, and not even once a week. I won't see her again until January, and even then it'll be just running across her for a few minutes because we'll be at the same place. I don't consider her a part of my life anymore.
I'm really sorry that happened to you; that is HARSH. Better luck in the future.

Sakaki is awesome. I love the guy. He's probably my second favourite character. Sakaki fans unite.

First off, I LOVE YOUR ICON. XD Oh man. HE'LL SAVE CHILDREN BUT NOT THE BRITISH CHILDREN...okay I'm done.

And I totally agree with you on 11. RPS squicks me for the exact same reasons.

Don't forget EMOPUPPY and his starring role as resident Magical Girl!

I'LL GAR... YOUR FACE! OHHHH!

(Anonymous) 2007-08-01 12:44 am (UTC)(link)
Hahah, I'd feel kinda bad about telling them to shove it D: Even if I sort of want to.

It's hard for me to want to migrate somewhere else because another game might not have all the same characters my friends play. Blah blah etc. etc. I love playing off of them, I just want that one character as well in our storyline :(

[identity profile] ladyelleth.livejournal.com 2007-08-01 12:44 am (UTC)(link)
Hm. I can see a difference in mediums, but imho that doesn't render 'traditional' art any more artsy than digital one... this is like saying that pastels is more artsy than watercolor is more artsy than photography. Photomanipulation - I do agree that there are some people who produce unimpressive results, but in general (and this probably is what you call "good") it is a lot more than merely painting over stock images. As for people looking like plastic - no, I don't like that particular style either, but it's just that, a style. Again, no more and no less artsy than the rest.

[identity profile] aviy.livejournal.com 2007-08-01 12:52 am (UTC)(link)
*nod* I understand. I'm only in multi-fandom RP myself, but I can see the appeal of wanting to play with certain characters, or the ever present "What if the other players SUCK" fear! If they're you're friends maybe you can talk them into it. I don't know the character, but he does have some depth, I'd assume? Yah yah, preachy bastard, but as long as he's human on a level another character could connect with, your friends might find they enjoy playing with him afterall. Hell, I play Ticky Mikk, who'se crazy and evil! But one of my favorite charcters because he still has the humanity to make friends, understand people's problems, and have real conversations beyond "hay killing you would be fun".

I just don't consider it real art. If someone else wants to by all means that's fine, but from a personal viewpoint I don't think photomanipulation is anywhere near other art forms. I see too much dishonesty among those who manipulate to the point that I've seen pieces that I was completely amazed with that were categorized as being 'Digital Art' when they truly turned out to be photomanipulations. I think photomanipulations are almost detrimental to art when they're misnamed digital paintings. Sadly, where digital art is concerned if something looks like it's a photograph, more often than not it is.

While I know photomanipulating takes a good deal of photoshop skills, as a digital artist myself I know the tricks they use and see it as 'cheating' in a sense. I know that some traditional artists view what I do in the same light that I view manips.

For me, though, using photoscrap and stock just is not the same as creating something original.
