This mouth-piece was just a completely ridiculous add-on to the character, imo.

I do things like that too. I haven't see that movie, but Disney's The Little Mermaid? Even with all the debates over what happened in the movie, the thing that bothered me the most was that it never occurred to Aeriel to find a way to write her freaking name down for Eric. Telling him the entire truth was obviously not really an option, but she does know how to write, we saw her sign the contract with Ursula.

He can... take it off? Batman dislodges all the wires and shit in the facemask and he doesn't die, he's just in a good deal of pain. He takes off the mask, quickly gobbles down food, then puts it back on.

Through a feeding tube would probably be the most logical answer. Either that or they have a straw hook up for that mask of his. He might also have an alternate facial device he uses for eating?

That movie was dumb as hell, but this seems less of a problem for me to comprehend.

If you have a straw you could just kind of...snake it around the inside of the mask, if it was loosened. I think.

What I want to know is how other people in that universe could understand him, especially during those big speeches. Am I alone in that I could only understand about 10% of what he said in the movie? "Fargleblargle adlkfjaldfjklajfldajflajfl the city of Gotham ..."

How in the hell is it so hard for people to get it??
The same way he gets his aenesthetics, or maybe straight into vein!
