I realize Loki has done horrible things in canon. I don't excuse them. I don't expect miraculous excuse/forgiveness for him in Avengers 2/Thor 2. It would feel wrong if he did.

But dammit I like reading woobie!Loki and good!Loki fics. I like to read fics where Loki gets a hug. He's (and I am) never going to get it in canon, so what's the harm in indulging in that in fanon?

This, to some extent and this is not against you at all. Of course that's fine to indulge in that shape of fanon and at least you're reasonable.

Unfortunately, I have met some crazy-ass fans that believe that all Loki needs is a hug. Like, that is the solution to the argument. Like, "Oh, it's nbd. All he needs is some love and everything will be solved." As if it's all Odin's fault for Loki's mad tendencies, that Loki is only capable of horrible things because he was put through some heartache himself but if he just sees the light that he is loved, things will be fine.

(I want to make everything better for him too, but not for his sake — I want it to be better for Thor's sake. Because I love Thor and I don't see how he can ever be completely happy if Loki's evil.)

This reminds me of when my sister and I rewatched Thor again after seeing The Avengers, this time with a rather different perspective.

My sister was playing a sort of drinking game, except that instead of drinking, everytime Loki would make a sadface, she would yell "COULSON!" to ruin the moment.

There's nothing wrong with that! It's just when his fans think their fanon view and interpretation of his character is actually canon is when it's annoying.
No, Loki isn't innocent. No, Loki's family wasn't abusive. No, Thor wasn't really all that horrible of an older brother (pretty must just your typical one, actually). No, their was no sexual attraction between Loki and any of the other Avengers, etc, etc, etc.

I'm not one of those people who doesn't think he's evil or in the very least a very bad bad man, but one of the reasons I thought Thor was so good is because Loki came off as a very complex villain. It was hard not to feel sorry for him, even if he was very much over reacting to his own issues.

And for a silly comic book movie I did not expect much of, I really felt that story was pulled off well (also I know comic books themselves are that complex, but comic book movies often aren't.)

I know there are some delusional fans out there but some of us realize who he is and still kind of want to give him a hug ;.;

I'm right there with yah, OP.

I just wish there was some NEW secret attached to Loki. The secrets people keep about him are feeling kind of monotonous. (Always with the "I Love/Hate Loki because 'he's a woobie'/'his fans are crazy'/'all he needs is a hug'/'why does anyone like him.'

I can't wait for Thor 2. I really hope it generates some Totally New way to Love/Hate Loki.

You can still be level-headed and enjoy woobie fics. It's actually the most level-headed people who can enjoy that and know they can separate fiction from reality without going on and on about how those other "dumb rabid fangirls" are doing it all wrong, "I'm not like those fangirls". In reality, the really hardcore deluded people are pretty few and far between. Some of the fics that are classified as woobie fics I still found very well written and their authors were actually very decent and down to earth people.

After all the fandom hype, I watched Thor and was completely underwhelmed and disappointed. Did I miss something? Maybe I set the bar too high but IMO that movie was pretty damn bland. I don't get Loki's fandomn woobiefication either. I couldn't sympathize with his character as much as I thought I would and I'm usually into those kinds of characters. Maybe it's just me lately. My friend's couldn't stop talking about Captain America as well and I thought that movie was terribly boring too. The actors who played Captain America and Thor were hot but...it wasn't enough to make the movies interesting to me.
