Yeah, I find that...odd. I love them, and while it could be awesome if they got a really well-written canon romance, I don't think it's that likely. The fans who are militant about how it must be canon kind of freak me out, especially when they say that Sterek must be canon for gay rights or something. Um, couldn't any m/m or f/f pairing on the show do that? Or giving Danny more screentime, or confirming that Stiles is bi without him having to date Derek? Shipping isn't a war.

Yeah, I agree with you on that one. I would be happy with any canon homosexual pairing or just more time for Danny.

While I would enjoy Sterek I find it weird to say it has to be canon for gay rights.

I was reading this one meta about how there needs to be more queer representation on Teen Wolf, and the only way that could happen is with Sterek because they have the best chemistry (which, okay, they do), and I'm just like, did this person forget about Danny? Why not do more stuff with him? There are a lot of hints that Stiles could be bisexual, which David put in on purpose, so why not just have an awesome story about Stiles being bi that has nothing to do with Sterek? The shippers who are just campaigning for it because it's their favorite pairing are a little much, but I don't mind them as much, as they are just kind of annoying. It's the ones who are hiding behind queer representation that seriously bother me.

I'm not into TW, but I've seen similar things happen in other fandoms and it does bother me too. It only makes it worse when they put down or bash canon queer characters while stating they want their ship to be canon for gay rights reasons.
