This is how I feel about the military in just about every movie ever. There will inevitably be some generic "special forces" brigade (military? SWAT? National guard? Oh who cares it's all the same right) wearing generic black kit with facemasks whose sole purpose is to:

1) Show off how badass the bad guys are by getting mowed down in droves, in the case of SWAT, etc.

and 2) Show off how badass the good guys are when the good guys can beat said bad guys after wave upon wave of "generic black-clad special forces brigade #12" has failed.

Or 3) Show off how badass the good guys are when they are mowed down by the good guys, in the case of PMCs, etc.

It does not matter how utterly fucking idiotic said "special forces" members have to act in order to fall victim to slow weaponless slime monsters/unarmed demon zombies/a single hero or heroine dual-wielding shotguns, they will, in fact, act that idiotic. See: the Resident Evil movies, Cabin in the Woods, Killer Elite, REC2, hell, even "realistic" films like Green Zone, and many, many more. I can't fucking stand it. Nothing takes me out of a film quite like some supposedly highly trained soldier going "what was that noise? Better wander off alone to find out!" or "Gee I've never seen that guy in this top secret military base before, he's probably legit!" or "Let's all stand in a line directly in front of the protagonist when there's cover all around!" or "I might be 20-something and in the prime of my life and just passed the most grueling athletic selection course of any military ever, but I'll be damned if I can outrun doughy middle-aged Jason Statham across these rooftops!". At least The Raid: Redemption was careful to point out that "these are rookies on their first day" as an excuse for a whole SWAT team to collectively shit their pants.

Generic black-clad special forces brigade = the new, modern day Stormtroopers, I guess.

This so much! When I watch movies with these guys I'm always yelling things like "How the FUCK did you get through training?!" (Not yelling in the theatre of course, that's rude. But at home on a DVD? HOLLERIN'.)

I know it's a trope, and I know it's just lazy writing, and I know it's a fantasy to pander to older men/nerds/insert target audience here but there was something about Statham's aging, saggy belly bouncing as he hopped a fence into Credenhill, where everyone just assumed some 45-year-old was trying out for SAS selection (????), chased down and murdered some elite soldier in the mountains where I was just like "I can't buy this. I'm out."

Or REC2's SWAT team being like "huh? There was a noise! Better send one person off alone to investigate, without a loaded or cocked weapon!". Sorry, but that isn't even fantasy. It's just shit.
