I'm assuming the small first explosion was a distraction for him escaping.
The only answer I can come up with is that everyone is an idiot in the Nolanverse.
I think that kinda goes without saying either way.

Unless he somehow ejected upwards and propelled further away? But even then... Man, thinking about this movie in depth just makes me dislike it more. lol

Lol yeah, when one of my friends asked about who would like the movie I said, "People who can just turn off their brains and enjoy. Don't think and you may like it." Which I can do and have done for movies. It's just not the kind of think you expect from a Batman movie.

It's really telling how much they blabber on in expository dialogue and use very little visual story telling to emote these characters.
My beef with the film is that the demographic seems to be people who want to see Batman do cool things. Which is okay. He does that-- and I can understand why people like it. Good music, lovely cinematography (outside of the fight scenes), and Batman punching people. It's a simple please-- but not an intelligent one.

But really the movie can be summed up by:
Lessons/Thinky-Thoughts: ???
Characters: Meh
Story: Look, a kitty.
Oh gosh, exposition everywhere! The story told me a lot but not only said very little but showed very little too.
I'm not sure why that's the target demographic anyway. Batman fans like the thinky-thoughts mostly. Average movie-goers like the punching but if you can fit thinky-thoughts in there they'll love it even more. So a lack of thinky-thoughts just detracts from the movie.

(Anonymous) 2012-08-19 05:43 am (UTC)(link)THIS. I liked the movie when I first saw it, but the more I thought about it the less I liked it.
In fact I wrote a whole rant on one of those TDKR secrets from right after the movie came out, talking about how TDKR was like the antithesis of the Avengers, because with the Avengers, the more I thought about it the more I loved it and the more awesome connections and parallels and implications and fridge brilliance I uncovered; whereas with TDKR, the more I thought about it the more bland and unmemorable and plot-hole-filled and disconnected and unsatisfying it seemed.

EXACTLY! For every question I had about Avengers, I could think and match up some explanation for it. Actions and motivations weren't questionable-- they felt sincere to the characters. Plot holes, if any were very minor and inconsistencies were mostly due to wardrobe (and still barely noticeable). Every discussion I've had about Avengers and its characters has been fulfilling in some way. Hell, even the Loki woobifiers have an interesting perspective that allows you to explore the character deeper (even if you disagree).
TDKR was riddled with questions, contradictions, plot holes, and irrelevancies. While I could enjoy aspects of it, thinking about it just kind of spoils it. Batman should be intelligent and fun. Not generic action brand.
