I think it's true for both, but it is far more important to acknowledge when it comes to women. Women who are not conventionally attractive are frequently thought of as having an "ugly personality" - a woman's looks are tied to her personality, intelligence, and so on. A man's looks aren't. A man who isn't conventionally attractive doesn't have people connecting that to whether or not he's a good guy, or whether or not he did something bad. A woman does. Are you going to dispute that? Because you'll be wrong.

I don't make an ass out of myself very often (I'll admit that I do, occasionally, because I'm not perfect; sometimes I take things too far or get angry and say things I don't mean - unlike my stalkers, I'm willing to admit that). My stalkers, on the other hand... well. You are what you are.
