For one thing, yes, they are men. Women are judged far more harshly for their appearance, and the consequences of their being found "ugly" or "unattractive" are much greater. Men don't suffer those consequences - men who are not conventionally attractive still find huge success, and people are willing to "overlook" men's unattractiveness and find them attractive no matter what -- something which is not true of women.

Regardless, both Tom Hiddleston and Benedict Cumberbatch have huge followings of people who find them extremely attractive and desirable, so I don't feel the need to go fight for them. They have loads of people lining up to defend their attractiveness despite their deviation from the norm. Women deemed unattractive have no such privilege.
