Remus/Sirius

it's odd, i don't really care for them anymore, the last two books kind of ruined remus for me, but i think i'd make them canon, too, mostly because i think i would cast a new light on the marauders and how they related to each other. wormtail would probably have felt even more of a surplus.

I just feel so bad for Remus. JKR just loaded layers of awful on him for his entire life.

actually this is the only ship of mine i would ever think of making canon. mostly because i kind of think it is? and i've never thought that about a ship before.

Yeah, I think this might be the one for me, too.

I kind of think it already is! It's one of the few ships I have where I can look at it and go 'I thiiiink that might actually have been canon already.'

Okay, I'm probably gonna get dogpiled, but I DO NOT GET FANDOM'S TREATMENT OF THIS SHIP. Specifically, the way people are always saying it's "pretty much canon."

I get the ship, for sure. It's a great ship with lots of potential and lots of possibilities and it makes lots of sense and I can see why people would jump for it and adore it and write loads of it. I completely understand why people would ship it, totally get the appeal, and I think the ship is actually pretty cool, and honestly I kinda ship it a little myself (OMG the Shoebox Project). But I cannot wrap my head around why 1) every single person on the face of the earth seems to ship it and 2) why everyone is always going "it's basically canon!"/"lol ikr?" and stuff. I just...where did this idea come from? Did I miss something? What how when...

I mean seriously, I have read the books a good 20 times at the very least in my lifetime, and have re-read certain chapters and passages even more, and I....just do not get why it's such a huge thing or why everyone goes "well, duh!" or makes exceptions for it as though it was a canonical ship. I have read far more fic and more essays than I ever want to trying to see if the lightbulb would switch on, and analyzed every scene with either of the characters to see where the "basically canon" thing comes from, and just....I can't. I totally see the squee-worthiness of the ship, and the ample support for the ship, but I do not see why it is so gargantuan and considered so canon.

/not angry or resentful or irritated in the slightest, just very, very bewildered....

I feel like it was a giant feedback loop of fanon and we were all brainwashing each other.

I remember being so starry-eyed over that ship and then re-reading HP and scrabbling around in confusion because I must be missing chapters somewhere!

+1 This happened to me when I binged on Remus/Sirius fic last year. I was like "Where is all the canon? Surely it must be in here somewhere. . ."

Nope.

I can't even this pairing anymore because it brings up so much secondhand embarrassment for all my little!me feels I had. I was so freakin' kawaii over them. I over-identified with Remus so much and I had all these complicated feels about whether or not I thought Sirius could actually give him what he needed and if the relationship could ever be healthy. And I was really into the angst and tragedy. Like almost morbidly so.

I had an extremely ~~codependent~~ close long distance friendship with a 'Remus' when I found this ship and Shoebox and we both had a lot of feelings about this ship ~~interspersed with long discussions about his sexuality and the ravages of our various severe untreated mental illnesses~~

I had to wean myself off the R/S when I started waking up in the middle of the night and trying to decode the ~obvious~ R/S undertones out of dumbass dreams about beaches with wrong colored sand.

Oh, don't give me credit for 'stop being rocks, Remus' that's all the fault of The Shoebox Project.

Dammit, there's several quotes that that is based on but none of them are the right one, and I can't find the right one, but basically Remus thinks he is rocks a lot and he needs to not be rocks sometimes yes it makes sense

I know what you're talking about! You just reminded me how much I loved that originally and I could use a cheery catchphrase right about now!

I'm going to +1 this reason because this is exactly how I feel looking back on the ship now.

vOv idk I am not one of the 'basically canon' people, I just like the dynamics of this ship and I think it would have been interesting to see it as canon and it's kind of my headcanon that it did happen, but it was never a thing that seemed 'obvious' to me. I've been a Potter fan for ten (Jesus has it really been that long? I'm old. . .) years and I only ever started shipping Remus/Sirius two years ago when I read The Shoebox Project.

Remus/Sirius in all honesty though is not very based in the actual text of the book. If you look at the number of times we see them interact in the book it's really not all that many times, and the most explanation I ever get out of anyone is that they hugged each other once and they gave Harry a joint birthday gift when they were both poor and they were friends when they were younger and are still friends when they are older.

People like it because of the 'childhood friends fall in love' trope and because Remus and Sirius are very complimentary in a lot of ways, but if you look at their interactions canon doesn't support the ship very much at all, it just doesn't really actively refute the ship, at least before Sirius's death anyway.

I shipped Remus/Sirius based on the books (and movies) and sometimes forget it isn't canon. I've never read any R/S fanfic, but I did read one doujinshi.

Maybe I wanted Sirius to have a little happiness before he died.

Ok ok ok don't know if you're going to care, but oh my fuck it's one of the greatest things I have ever read, and I have read a lot of books and fanfiction.

i don't ship them and never have (my sole hp ship is h/d), but tbh? i can definitely understand why people feel this way. there's not any evidence that it's canon, like specific passages that you could pick out or anything, that's for sure. but i got the feeling that there was something going on between them, like it could easily be slid into canon i guess. if rowling came out and said there was something going on between remus and sirius (the way she did about dumbledore being gay), my reaction would just be 'well, yeah.' just my own gut feeling about it, though.

This is me. I have nothing against Remus/Sirius as a ship, but I just don't see it as being "almost canon." Probably because I personally don't really ship Remus/Sirius, so I never looked for fanon?

IDK, I can't point to what it was now because it's been--Jesus--eight years, but I reread PoA before the third movie came out and I absolutely had that lightbulb moment of, "They could totally be doin' it." I didn't know anything about HP fandom or online fandom at all (except it was a thing some of my friends liked), and I just dived into it headfirst because there was something about how Remus and Sirius interacted in that book that said "more than friends" to me. And part of it is that there is absolutely nothing to contradict it, and part of it is that we don't see really intense friendships between adults elsewhere in the books (maybe because Remus and Sirius are pretty terrible adults, but still), but I just could not get it out of my head. So maybe it's just not a lightbulb that comes on for everyone? But R/S definitely preceded fandom for me.

I don't!! Never really did. Mostly because Sirius always fucking annoyed me and I'd not wish him on anyone. Same went for James. *shrug*

Word. And that's not because I hate Remus/Tonks; I totally do not. But I want this so mu-huh-huh-uch.
