At least we've got Merida now! She's about as explicitly aromantic as I could dare hope for. Even if they left the ending open and she's not going to be one of the first-stringers, it's so much better than what we had before...

How do you know she won't be a first-stringer? That still seems pretty up in the air? The movie was a big hit...

3D-animated, Pixar rather than Disney proper, and not on any of the current Princess-line merch.

Also, (apparently) younger than the others.

I'm sure she'll do fine, but I don't see her becoming one of the official first-line Disney Princesses.

Not being on any of the princess merchandise means nothing at this point. The movie just came out two months ago so Disney is focusing solely on individual Brave merchandise at current. They did the same thing with Rapunzel and Tiana. In fact, Rapunzel, despite her popularity, wasn't officially added to the lineup until almost a year after the film came out, and she didn't appear on any of the princess line merchandise until at least seven months after it came out (several months after the dvd was released).

Basically Disney needs to see how well she sells as her own character before officially deciding if she's going to be part of the line or not. Whether she's CGI is irrelevant too. Disney's first CGI princess, Rapunzel, has quickly become one of the most popular characters in the entire line, and as Disney doesn't appear to be going back to 2D any time soon, any future princesses (like Anna from Frozen) will probably be CGI as well.

As for her age, she can't possibly be younger than Snow White (who is fourteen).

It is anticipated that she joins the line-up, actually.

And Rapunzel joined, despite being 3D. She also didn't get onto any merch until she was officially inducted (although you had leaks, here and there). Also, Snow White is supposed to be 13. The rest are all 16 or up. Merida is definitely in the 15-16 range.

Your face when Brave 2 is made and 20% of the movie is her in LUVVVVVVVVV

I plan to do what I did with the first one: not go and watch until someone has confirmed to me that her storyline isn't about LURVE.

...if that doesn't happen, I plan to deny there ever was a sequel.

I'm in Highlander fandom! I'm good at that!

I LOL'd because it's true.

Merida is a Pixar princess and not a Disney one though, and there needs to be a distinction about that because people need to realize it was a HUGE DEAL for Pixar to make a story where the protagonist is a female princess. Pixar has largely avoided movies about girls and it's a problem.

She's still technically under the Disney umbrella. There are plenty of pieces of official Disney merchandise that feature Disney characters mingling with Pixar ones. Her being Pixar shouldn't exclude her from the princess line.

Pixar is a part of Disney though. The first Pixar movies like Toy Story had "DISNEYYYYYY" all over them. They just got bigger, but they're still within the Disney.....idk, umbrella? For instance, next time you're in a mall, briefly check out the Disney store. There's Brave and Merida merchandise all over the place (I WANT THE COSTUME but they only sell it in kids' sizes, womp)
