You won't watch another Disney movie until more diversity happens? You could just watch cam recordings,or buy a ticket for another movie and go see it, unless you legitimately don't want to see it and just not give Disney your money.

Aside from the obvious shitstorm from family values groups, the biggest problem I see is simply time. It's not such a big deal to draw different races, and have the character be awesome, and make your average Disney film. But to have trans characters, queer romances, alternative lifestyles, would require explanation and affirmation, and would cut into story-telling time. A princess who used to be a prince, who is in love with a prince from another kingdom, is just too complicated for Disney.

.....huh. Okay then. I suppose I get it, given that I've got strong opinions about the Princesses - like, how about a chubby one? Or one who doesn't end up paired off at the end? But as much as I admire your commitment to sparkle motion, I think we're both dreaming a little bit big. :(

At least we've got Merida now! She's about as explicitly aromantic as I could dare hope for. Even if they left the ending open and she's not going to be one of the first-stringers, it's so much better than what we had before...

I only wonder is if they did this would they make it part of the plot of the whole story or would it be just "this kind of person happens to have an adventure"? Both are interesting story types but I think the former is something I haven't really seen Disney do well yet. They do way better at the latter.

They won't make those movies ever. The market is too small. Yes, it would be nice of them to create movies for everyone on your list but Disney is still a company who wants to make a profit. They would shooting themselves in the foot.

You could read Merida as aromantic? But yeah, I do agree with the sentiment. I don't see why it'd be so difficult to have the princess fall in love with another girl instead of a prince or something? I guess the big question is whether they'd have it be in a magical kingdom with no prejudice, or actually have homophobia/transphobia be part of it.

idk, maybe I'm too optimistic, but I could see at least a lesbian princess/gay prince happening at some point. Plus the it'd be free advertising.

Yeah, I fear that might be a long wait - as Disney movies are seen a a "family value" in many circles, and the outrage/uproar from disgruntled parents would be more than what Disney's willing to handle. Sad, but it's a reality.

I'm pretty sure this won't happen in Disney's lifetime. A company like Disney aims to cover the biggest possible share of its own market, and having characters like the ones you listed means losing a good chunk of their audience. The world won't become progressively more acceptable to alternative lifestyles, there will always be something that will throw society back, there will always be countries (or rather regions of countries) which are less acceptable and would ban these stuff , and even if those people who wouldn't be against a lesbian/Trans*/etc. princess, many (if not most of them) still wouldn't watch movies about them, because they are unable to relate to the characters (like almost all of my liberal friends, they are all about gay rights and equality, but would never watch a show where the focus is on gay/lesbian romance, because they cannot relate to it, they feel alienated). And from a business POV, why would Disney want to include an aromantic princess, for example? The market is just too niche for that, there's not profit in it.

Does anyone else get irrationally annoyed when Mulan is included in pictures of the Disney princesses, but Kida and Eilonwy aren't? Not that Mulan isn't awesome, she's just not a princess.

Regarding the actual content of this secret: It might become a reality one day! In a couple of decades. Hopefully.

You could always head-canon all of Disney shows re: gender identity and trans* issues. Maybe Prince Charming was actually born a Princess Charming. Maybe Mulan was really born a man but grew up IDing as female, which really adds a whole level of resentment and anger to the entire deal. Maybe Naveem sees himself as more genderfluid but was feeling particularly Princely while in New Orleans.

Same with bisexual. You only have a small window into these lives. Maybe Ariel dated a merlady before she went gaga for the human (which is a trans* type of story on it's own).
