As you get older, the Same Old Same Old ... gets more and more boring.

As to why this is ~ I can only speak for myself. As time goes on (talking decades here) I think my standards became higher and higher (especially as I was exposed to truly, magnificent creative works) I've become far more impatient of spending/wasting time with the mediocre. I save praise for those things that I truly find exceptional.

So have faith. I think there'll still be things that will fill you with glee and squee and enthusiasm: they just might not be the same places/media where you found joy when you were younger.

I agree. Once you're familiar with the best of a genre, it becomes harder to be satisfied with just anything.

I'm exactly the same. Life is way too short. I seriously can't suspend my disbelief for most SFF these days (with very few exceptions)
