Okay, whatever side you are on in this debate, can we please not use statutory rape and child molestation interchangeably?

I'm not saying one is more bad than the other, but there is a HUGE difference between an adult taking advantage of a fifteen-year-olld and a five-year-old being molested.

I'm curious now though. When does it stop being child molestation and turn into statutory rape? What is the age cutoff there?

It's 13 years old in some places. It varies from place to place.

I'm no expert, but I think most countries (mine own, specifically) say after puberty it's statutory, before puberty it's child molestation. The middle is debatable, I guess.

It depends on the state/country. In some places it's as low as ten (usually with close-in-age excemptions), in others, it's the age of consent (usually between 16-18). The close-in-age exception is the age difference between the participants. It also depends on whether the older partner is over eighteen or not.

Let's say... a thirteen-year-old and a sixteen-year-old (two teenagers), in a lot of states, would be legal. Two years later, a fifteen-year-old and an eighteen-year-old (a teenager and an adult) might become statuatory rape. It can vary a lot.

I thought "statutory rape" just meant that it was below the age of consent

You may be right. In my experience it's been used to describe adults having illegal sexual acts with minors, but not children (ie. teenagers under the age of consent). While child molestation is used for pedophilic sexual abuse.

What I was trying to say was adult/teenager sex =/= adult/child sex.
