Just before anyone calls out OP for "intentionally" looking for this stuff: If you visit, say, /b/, it's really disturbingly easy to see this stuff by accident. You don't even have to click on the thread for the images to show up. Most people who go to /b/ know that it's fucked up, but not everybody knows that, if you go there at the wrong time, it's really, really easy to accidentally stumble across this stuff.

In a way I know what you mean; I accidentally saw a real picture of something I'd been turned on by in fiction and I was horrified. (Though I'm still all right with it in fictional representations that aren't live action.)

It was comforting to realise that I actually was horrified by the real life situation though.

The thing is, it's normal to like some things in fiction that you'd hate and/or feel disgusted by if it happened in real life (even Aristotle makes that point). It's the fictional part that makes all the difference. Why else would horror be so popular?

Of course certain fictional things can be an inspiration to madmen, but people that sick will find their inspiration anywhere. It's not the fiction that's the source of the problem.

The difference between drawn/written porn, and live-action, is that live-action porn involves real people. Now, adult porn is fine, because it involves adult actors. Maybe the actors are enjoying themselves, maybe not, but they're consenting and they're paid for their time. (This isn't to say that there's a dark side to the industry- I'm sure there's porn out there that involves people who weren't consenting or paid.)

CP is in a whole other stadium.
Those children you saw, in those photographs? They were real children. They were real, living human beings, like you and me. Maybe it's easy behind the screen of a computer and anonymity to brush that aside.
But they are real human beings. They have lives. They have families and friends. They have hopes and dreams. Maybe they want to be a ballerina when they grow up, or a star soccer player.

They didn't take place in those photos willingly or with the full understanding of what they were getting into. Fact is, child abuse by strangers is very rare. Child abuse by people they know is far more common. Often it's a family friend, a relative, a grandparent, a teacher, a nurse or a doctor, a babysitter, a clergyman, a police officer. People in positions of power who abuse that power to hurt the child.

One day they'll grow up, and they will have to live with the memories of that. They will have to live with self-hatred and the pain of betrayal by someone who they thought they could trust. And many of them won't be able to live with that burden.

People who view those photos are just as responsible as the people who took them. Because by viewing those photographs, they create an audience for it, and they are complicit in abusing the child.

OP, you have knowedlge now. Don't sit idly by. Use it to turn this around and do something good to prevent this from happening, and to protect your fellow human beings.
