Also, at least you no longer like loli/shotacon? c: It might be produced without hurting real children, but it's not unheard of for pedophiles to use child porn to groom their victims ("look, it's okay, the child there is doing it too"), so it wouldn't surprise me at all that they would look at cartoon/anime/manga/whatever porn or risqué stuff and go all "bingo! children like cartoons, they will look at this!"

Seriously, that's your logic here. I mean, I have a huge problem with child pornography that depicts real children and loli/shota grosses me out, but one is obviously wrong and illegal and the other isn't intrinsically hurting anyone; there are plenty of people who look at cartoon child porn and aren't hurting real children by doing so. Have fun trying to impose thought crime on others

I disagree. Take a trip at the Content Violation forums on TV Tropes and see how many people have become so desensitized AND then had other similar people reaffirm them in a feedback loop that now they can't even tell what counts as porn or as sexualizing children.

It took them a ridiculous amount of time to decide which pages to keep, and they kept (with an instruction to "clean") a lot of pages that blatantly sexualize children in a "family friendly wiki". They saw nothing wrong with this.

I used to think just like you do until I saw that and realized that people (not all, granted, but a scary chunk) were starting to see lolicon and shotacon as normal.

Obviously not everyone reading/watching them are molesting children, but they're contributing towards keeping that market alive.

Yes, exactly. The problem is sexualized children being so commonplace that people no longer give a shit. It's the car alarm effect. People are so desensitized to the car alarm that their intended purpose no longer exists. Nobody's going to report when they hear one go off because lol, that shit happens all the time, it's just a cat or something.

Have some Earth Logic(TM):

Preventing the pedos from accessing cartoon CP (with a diversionary name on it to make it *seem* like it's not cartoon CP) by stopping people from creating cartoon CP in the first place, either through enforcement or societal pressure, or discouraging the "fans" of this stuff through social activism or societal pressure, might actually save one child from being given one of these magazines and told what they're being asked to do/engage with is somehow OK.

Which is not a pearl-clutching THINK OF THE CHILDREN screed. It's commonsense. This cartoon CP is just as bad as having a box of weapons out in the open with "FREE -- TAKE ONE" written on the box.

Honestly, if we think about any object in our lives in terms of how it can be used to hurt children, we'll be able to find something there. Because people who want to hurt children are sick and manipulative and will use any tool they can to help them do that. There is a ton of "risqué stuff" with artistic and social value, and throwing it all out as grooming material seems pretty short-sighted.

In that episode of Different Strokes the bicycle shop dude who molested Dudley showed them "cartoons with naked people in them" so apparently Ralph Bakshi is a tool for grooming, let's ban his cartoons immediately do it anyway because they are all terrible

This also begs the question of what child molesters would do if shota/loli was banned. Wouldn't they just use something else?
