What kind of ticks me off is calling it 'loli/shota' in general, cute little words, like people are distancing themselves from what it really is.

"I don't like real-life child porn, that's sick. I just like drawn child porn". I think both are sick and wrong, but if you disagree the least you can do is to call a spade a spade and quit euphemising it.

Ehhh. The principle of this makes sense, but without getting into whether there's an ethical difference between these two categories, there is definitely a world of difference in general.

It's like "gay porn" vs. "yaoi." Like they were saying upthread, the two categories are so vastly different in terms of audience, aesthetics, realism, characterization, power balance, artistic medium, etc. that it feels really weird to call them the same thing.

not that I'm excusing lolicon, etc., mind, on the contrary, but to try to explain their point of view:

the people who like this stuff genuinely separate "lolis" (sexually precocious... entities that might as well be slightly immature adults trapped in a very unrealistic and disproportionate child-like body) from real life children

I don't think it makes it right, but I can see why they genuinely think there's nothing wrong with it

and not all lolicon, etc. is like that, but I've seen that a lot of the people defending it (that aren't pedophiles) make a very distinct separation in their minds, to justify it to themselves, I guess

when they don't make the distinction and curtain crumbles, you have happen what happened to the op
