Well, it got what they were aiming for: mass attention of young girls from 5-12. Hell, my aunt were almost done high school and were in love with the show. It was just so colorful and bright and since I was 7 or 8, I thought the concept of girls kicking asses was cool because everything I saw at the time involved men coming to the rescue (I watched a lot of Disney movies) and saving the day.

But I hear the manga is 9000x better than the anime because they changed a lot.

Maybe, never tried the manga. But the TV show was just... all sorts of WTF, girls in little miniskirts shooting magic bubbles to destroy monsters or something adfngkajfg I don't know. And none of the character designs stood out to me as attractive or anything (which I assume they were supposed to be since you hear about other guys masturbating to SM all the time) -- yeah, I just really don't get it. ):
