I'm the same way- I thought it was fun when I was like, five. But that's because I had the attention span of a goldfish.
But it wasn't a big deal to me at all. I didn't even know what the series was called, just the time slot and channel it was on ^^;

I don't even remember how old I was. Uhhhh, really young. I just hear all these people being like huge fans of it and I never understood why. ):

[identity profile] halevy.livejournal.com 2007-08-03 12:36 am (UTC)(link)
Well, it got what they were aiming for: mass attention of young girls from 5-12. Hell, my aunt were almost done high school and were in love with the show. It was just so colorful and bright and since I was 7 or 8, I thought the concept of girls kicking asses was cool because everything I saw at the time involved men coming to the rescue (I watched a lot of Disney movies) and saving the day.

But I hear the manga is 9000x better than the anime because they changed a lot.

Maybe, never tried the manga. But the TV show was just... all sorts of WTF, girls in little miniskirts shooting magic bubbles to destroy monsters or something adfngkajfg I don't know. And none of the character designs stood out to me as attractive or anything (which I assume they were supposed to be since you hear about other guys masturbating to SM all the time) -- yeah, I just really don't get it. ):

[identity profile] fairyfey.livejournal.com 2007-08-03 12:42 am (UTC)(link)
Attractive in what way?

Because I'll admit to watching it in kindergarten/1st grade and loving it, but I definitely never crushed on any of the characters or anything like that.

Um, I love typical shounen like Naruto and Bleach, adore Seinen like Vagabond and Berserk, and love shoujo like Sailor Moon? WHERE DOES THAT PUT ME?

The Sailor Moon anime imo was awful. I loved it as a kid but did not so much as an adult at all. The manga however was full of hilarious jokes, girls asking each other if they ever fart, very well developed relationships and awesome female characters. So I didn't really care that it was magical :B

Huh? I don't know? In the realm of people?

Sure. Like I said, never read the manga but I never found any of the anime attractive, and I assume it's the same art style in the manga?

I watched it when I was 8 and hated it (it was the only childrens show on before school on the weekdays or I never would have watched it at all). and I'm a girl. I still can't figure out why people like it.

Whoa, me three. I had this weird hate addiction to it, though to be fair in retrospect, a lot of my wtf was due to the fact that they didn't air the episodes in any kind of logical order. I liked it a lot more when I watched a bit of it online earlier this year, though not enough to get more then ~15 episodes in.

[identity profile] tardious.livejournal.com 2007-08-03 01:39 am (UTC)(link)
I liked it when I was five to seven years old, but that was mostly their target audience. Now that I watch it again, I'm quite embarassed about ever liking it all together - maybe due to the fandom, maybe due to how curious it was in general.

Like you know, girls in short skirts, doing sparkly and bubbly attacks? What ultimately gets to me though, despite me being ashamed - honestly is embarassing though if I do watch the final two episodes of the first season though in Japanese, I get a tear in my eye. :(

I guess ultimately it's a choice of preference, or what you were into at the time. Not saying if you don't like it 'LOL u sux', but now that I watch it over again, I hit my head against the desk in shame. But there are a few scenes that still make me wibble, no matter how cheesy and lame it is.

I guess I liked the fact there seemed to be continuity from episode to episode, which I never saw before. [ Except in Dragon Ball or Monkey Magic, but I won't get into that. 8D; ]

never think sailormoon is appealing, but I always wondering, when they transform of doing their magical thing, I realize it take a long lines and quite time.

Why the monsters are so stupid not to take the girls dead while they doing the weird dance? :/

[identity profile] willag.livejournal.com 2007-08-03 01:03 pm (UTC)(link)
In "reality" (har har... reality for a cartoon that is), the transformation was only supposed to be a second or less long. At least it was that way in the manga - instantaneous transformation. I can't remember if it was that way in the anime (was there a point where a monster was watching them transform in real time and talking about it?)

No, I always wondered why more monsters didn't try to attack them when they were giving their speeches of "Truth and Justice" or when Tuxedo Mask was spouting off gay poetry. I think the only villain that ever commented upon how stupid it was for them to talk was Iron Mouse - "Wait, you're still talking? Why are you still talking? Bored now". She was definitely my fav and I hated to see her go.
