I immediately thought of That fic in the fandom I'm in, and promptly went to check if that was the one you were commenting on, but the dates are different.

Still, believe me, I feel exactly the same way.

I always wonder what THAT fic is for different fandoms. Right now (for me at least) THAT fic in XMFC fandom is the Bound and Determined series. I just don't get the appeal. The same thing happened with me for the Draco Trilogy (I'm showing my age here), but in the end I guess I was right to avoid it.

The appeal is elaborate AU worldbuilding, deconstruction of the soulmate trope, and tons of kinky D/s. If those aren't your cup of tea, then it probably isn't for you, but you can't really argue that it's horribly written a la ff.net dumpsterfic. *shrug*

I didn't say I thought it was dumpsterfic (great term BTW). I just didn't see the appeal. I gave up towards the middle of the first story since I'm not into kinky D/s or major angst. I mean, I loved the starcrossed angst in the XMFC film, but Bound and Determined took it to the extreme, to the point where I was rolling my eyes at the levels of mangst and pain (both physical and mental). Plus, 240,000 words in and they didn't even meet, so I didn't see the point in continuing.

I'm always curious of what the THAT FICs are in people's fandoms. Like, the one that you just don't get the appeal. I really want to know what fic the OP of the secret is referring to.

For me, it's Embers by Vathara in the ATLA fandom. I've tried more than once to read it, but I just don't get the appeal.

Couldn't get through either! So poorly written and plotted, yet highly recommended!
