I can see Hiddleston as Crowley, but BC as Aziraphale? I almost wonder if these people have read the book at all. Aside from the physical describtion, which just doesn't fit at all, I don't see it personality wise either. Maybe I am biased because I only ever saw Sherlock, but don't really see BC as an angelic type.

For some reason Fry and Coltrane pop to mind for me as actors who could rock that role.

Fry is my Aziraphale actually! When I'm reading GO, I always picture Aziraphale as a younger (like thirty-something) Stephen Fry. Even now though, he'd be perfect for the part.

I was grimacing at the thought of BC as well, because he really doesn't fit the physical description, but as for the rest... He's certainly very English and he can play very clever. I imagine the 'gayer than a tree full of monkeys etc.' thing could be arranged. So I'm not sure, but I think it might not be awful and terrible as I'd initially thought.

Yeah, if they're going to cast it with a Sherlock alum then Watson would be better (but still not my choice).

Mark Sheppard for Crowley!

. . . ok you realize these are actors we're talking about, right?

(Anonymous) 2012-08-27 11:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, they do call them 'actors' for a reason. He wouldn't be playing Sherlock, or himself. Physically he doesn't fit my mental image of Aziraphale (I'd personally favour Stephen Fry), but acting wise I don't think he'd have much trouble. Aziraphale's persona is certainly within the RP-speaking, clever, terribly English range BC can pull off.

I agree. I'm totally on board with Hiddles as Crowley (There's a fantastic pic of him in theater 3-d glasses which is what put me firmly in that camp), but Benedict is all wrong for Aziraphale. Maybe martin freeman, if we're going with english flavor of the week actors, but even he isn't a leading candidate in my head. I have no "perfect" person in mind for Aziraphale yet.
