I don't think his age was ever really given and he had very little physical description (his hands are described as well manicured and plump though. And I thiiiiiink it was mentioned that he was a bit sensitive about his weight?)

Yeah, I never pictured him as older and I'm not sure where people got that or the Stephen Fry idea - I assume someone once suggested it and the fandom just ran with it and bullied people into agreeing.

I suppose it depends on what people mean by "older" because I definitely see him as looking over 30, but not, say 60.

My brain tends to go towards classical art, where angels were more pretty-boy-like, only like you said, he's on the plump side - at least, not willowy.

When Adam returns Aziraphale to a corporeal form, it is noted that Aziraphale is mildly disappointed to see that this new body is exactly like the one he had, which to me sounds like not he doesn't consider said body entirely ideal. The chubby fingers (and the fact that in that one scene he eats Crowley's cake after finishing his own food) would seem to imply that what he's unhappy about might very well be the weight.

In the same scene Madame Tracy says that she had expected Aziraphale to be younger. I always took her comment to mean that Aziraphale appears to be closer to her age than to twenty.

Nothing is ever clearly stated, admittedly, so there's leeway.

I don't know about everyone else, but my mental image of the characters as older was permanently skewed by the bookjacket author photo of Pratchett and Gaiman more or less dressed respectively as Aziraphale and Crowley.
