I sort of wish it was possible to have two versions of a GO adaptation: one with the above casting to throw into the lion's den of tumblr as a placating piece of highly slashable steak, and one made thoughtfully with less transparently pandering casting (Sam West as Aziraphale? Yes PLEASE).

And while we're all anon here, let's be honest: I would watch the fuck out of both of them.

Well said

Anon from above:

I'm so delighted other people like the idea of Sam West as Aziraphale! I think he would be pretty perfect; he's even got a lovely hint of roundness now.

same anon

He's actually kind of perfect. I think people think of 'angelic' and think it equals 'ethereal' - but honestly, wouldn't you much rather have Sam West as the embodiment of quiet, slightly fussy trustworthiness? Great shout.

Thank you! And absolutely! The only problem is that he basically played Aziraphale in Eternal Law (angel who is a barrister with a strange relationship with his demonic counterpart; heart's in the right place but definitely quite snippy and fussy; fond of getting drunk on top of buildings), so it would be unlikely he'd want to do something so similar. But he can do the clipped voice hiding concern so well...

True from an actorly point of view i.e. not wanting to reprise a similar role, but maybe if the (purely hypothetical that I am talking about like it's a real thing) adaptation was big enough news? Also, nobody watched Eternal Law so shhh, let's just not tell anyone. (No slight on the programme, I just don't know anyone who watched it, including myself.)

There was a brief little fandom on DW and Tumblr that bravely tried to fan the flame but I think they recognised that love wasn't enough, and the actual show itself was pretty dire. But maybe a casting person saw it? That would be wonderful!

Also, I believe an adaptation is in the works? A miniseries, directed by Terry Jones?

(Anonymous) 2012-08-27 11:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, I had heard an adaptation was forthcoming, but then again it's apparently been forthcoming for the last ten years so I take these things with a pinch of salt. Terry Jones though? Awesome. Bring it.

You know what? I'm going to go check out Eternal Law now. Tobias Menzies isn't far off my mental Crowley either. Thanks!

(Anonymous) 2012-08-27 11:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Fair warning: the plot and episodes are pretty dire, but the characterisation is glorious, and there's some nice little bonuses for Good Omens fans. :D And Tobias Menzies and Sam West are as good as ever.

Warning taken and appreciated. I'm sure I've seen worse. I watch Merlin.

(Anonymous) 2012-08-27 11:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, if you watch Merlin you'll be fine. Imagine the writers of Merlin made a Good Omens lawyer AU and filed the numbers off and you pretty much have Eternal Law.
