F!S, I just watched Benjamin Button, and I haven't cried that hard because of a film in ages. What are your favourite movies that make you cry?

The one thing that always gets me is animals reuniting like in Homeward Bound or Milo and Otis. I can't contain myself and end up sobbing so hard.

The Fifth Quarter

I recently watched a movie called The Fifth Quarter (which was mostly kind of horrible, by the way) but in it a family loses one of their sons in a car accident, and I bawled like a little baby clear through the first third of it. And it wasn't just because Aiden Quinn got all old and stuff.

Jesus this is geeky, but LOTR. Always and without fail, in each of the movies there's at least a scene or two that makes me bawl.

Toy Story 3. I shouldn't have to explain that, I think.

The Fox and the Hound. Geez, that movie.

Probably a weird thing to include, but MULAN. "The greatest gift and honor is having you for a daughter."

I'm sure there are more 'serious' examples but at the moment I can't think of them.

I almost never cry over movies or tv shows or books, but Field of Dreams. I can't get anyone in my family to watch it with me because they think it's about baseball (pssh) but it's probably just as well because they might very well think I was on the verge of a mental breakdown (we are a very stiff upper lip-type family) at the end with all the sobbing going on.

It IS happy sobbing*, at least! A concept they don't understand in the slightest, but oh well.

Also, Apollo 13. And The Iron Giant.

*except when Doc can't go back and play again...breaks my damn heart every time

For some reason, I almost NEVER cry at sad movies. I quite frequently cry at sad moments in fun movies, especially comedies, because they catch me off guard. And I cry at emotionally intense scenes that aren't sad at all. Honestly, books and sad episodes of TV shows make me cry far, far, far more often than movies. And franchise movies more than stand-alones. And I still generally just tear up for a minute. Never break down crying.

So:

Star Trek: First Contact (the scene where the Vulcans land and make contact. Every. Single. Time.)

The Kid (the scene where child services take the kid away, and the Tramp is inside the house pinned down by the officers, listening to the kid screaming and begging him to save him.)

Toy Story (when Buzz tries to fly.)

Toy Story 3. (All the way through. Multiple times.)

Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid

The Graduate (only movie that has ever reduced me to actual sobs rather than just blurry vision.)

The Avengers

Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan

Star Trek II: The Search For Spock ("Jim. Your name is Jim."/"Yes. *most gorgeous smile in the history of the universe*")

Old Yeller

Generally speaking I'm not a big crier, but there are a couple of movies/scenes that will get to me.

My Girl - the funeral scene.

Ever After - the scene where the step sister steals her book and throws it into the fire gets me every time. I know that utter frustration and despair of family being total assholes and destroying what you prize most just because they know you prize it most.

"Dragonheart," the end. It's not just the heartbreaking conclusion. That I could handle. It's the music in combination with everything. Gets me every time.

But, the hardest I've ever cried was at the end of a certian episode of Farscape. Without spoiling anything for those who havent seen it: the episode was the second part of "Infinite Possibilities."

Bicentennial Man made me tear up a bit.

It's pretty easy to make me cry though. All you have to do it make me feel strongly that something was "unfair" but only if I've connected well enough with the character who is on the receiving end of the unfairness. Hero's goal gets ruined somehow and they are completely dejected? I'm probably gonna cry. Person I really likes dies? Probably.

In my defense, I don't bawl. It's just a tear or two that I can wipe away discretely at its worst.

I cry all the time watching movies, I don' think I could even begin to list them all.
Atonement is currently occupying the top spot on my list though. Never again.

It's not even one of my favorite movies (though not bad either IMO) but I cried at Finding Neverland, right in the damn theater. I was so embarrassed.

When I got pulled into seeing Where the Wild Things Are in theaters with my family... it was ugly. Breath-hiccuping crying from me. Everyone else kinda staring at me.

Ordinary People always gets to me. Also, Home Alone. And almost any Pixar movie can usually make my eyes sting, at the very least.
