I'm really not quite sure what else people expected to happen. AO3 is an automated multi-fandom archive that actively promotes itself as being open to all kinds of fic. You're bound to start seeing a huge variation in quality as its popularity increases. You want a high goodfic to badfic ratio you have to a) set limits on who can post, b) set limits on what can be posted, and/or c) promote the archive as a place for high quality fic.

For me personally the goodfic to badfic ratio has always seemed pretty much equivocal for AO3 and ff.net though. Ff.net certainly has no shortage of badly spelt Mary Sues, but a trip to AO3 often involves wading through a pile of generic OOC kink meme fills to find something where the characters are recognisably themselves.
