Huh. I just rewatched this movie the other day.

I like this movie, but there are so many... I guess I want to say, missed opportunities in it? The pacing and plot takes so many screwy directions at times that it's jarring. And the lead-up to the giant badass jaguar just kind of... falls on its face. There are a lot of loose ends and to me, as a Disney fan, it just feels a bit unpolished? And that's a shame because I love the parts of it that succeed. (Many Disney movies are too.) I think in some cases though Disney has enough experience to tie up things or time sequences just right, even if their movies are more predictable because of it. It just doesn't feel like it's living up to its potential, and not just because of the shoehorned het romance or what-have-you.

It's a beautiful movie, it just feels like looking at a gangly awkward teenager instead of an adult, know what I mean?
