I consider myself a Disney fan (not that I'm active in a Disney fandom or something), but I think that movie's pretty awesome. I had no idea there was some sort of hate for it within Disney fandom.

But why are you sorry? You can like both Disney and this, that isn't a crime! Anyone who thinks it is has a problem.

Also, this movie is amazing. Seriously, amazing. Tulio and Miguel have some of the best faces EVER. Now I sorta want icons...

Anyway: you're fine, anon.

It's an awesome movie and you have every right to love it.

I personally didn't like the movie, but we all have the right to like whatever we please. It doesn't surprise me that some overenthusiastic Disney fans have a hatedom for it.

I don't know how many times I've seen this movie by now, always trying to figure out why so many call it amazing. Still don't understand all the love and praise. Makes me sad. :(

I can sort of see why some Disney fans might dislike the movie. Because the movie's plot is basically like a Disney movie that dispenses with the Disney protagonists and instead follows the adventures of the whacky comic relief supporting characters. They bear very little resemblance to typical Disney plots or protagonists or character arcs.

What's wrong with your friends that they'd take your liking something as a slight.

This movie is awesome, I don't get why Disney fans would hate it. You shouldn't be sorry, your friends need to realize it's totally possible to like two or more things at once.

[identity profile] nomorenoodles.livejournal.com 2012-08-27 11:36 pm (UTC)(link)
I grew up a Disney kid, but when I finally got around to watching this film I really loved it, even though I'm usually quite averse to Dreamworks' stuff. Keep loving it, it just shows you've got good taste.

I can understand not liking the movie (since it's very orientated around the dynamic of the two main characters), but wow, I didn't know people were so rabid about it that people had to hide liking it.

Personally I'd say screw the haters because I think this movie is awesome and if people are honestly going to be mad about that then OH WELL.

For me it's not about who made the film. It's about the film. Is the film good? I'll like it. Is it bad? I won't like it. Nowhere in there is there "brand loyalty" or something like that.

I love that film too OP.

I just found out I while I have a lot of icons of them I have few gifs. But here's one that kinda fits?

But this movie is amazing! I personally enjoy it because it really falls away from the usual Disney plot, and that's what makes it fun.

Don't be sorry for liking it, OP. If your friends don't like it, then your friends don't like it and that's fine.

(Anonymous) 2012-08-28 12:15 am (UTC)(link)
I love Disney films and Dreamworks films, is there some odd rule that you can't like both or something?

(Anonymous) 2012-08-28 12:26 am (UTC)(link)
i have kind of mixed feelings on this movie. on the one hand, i find it pretty mediocre. on the other, i love love *love* kevin kline and kenneth branagh, especially together. so i really enjoyed that aspect of it. but i dunno, at least if we're talking about the golden age of disney (like pre-pocahontas), this movie doesn't really compare.

I love that movie and Anastasia. There ARE decent animated films outside Disney lol Dunno why people can't accept that :P

I have got to see this movie. It's up there with Lilo & Stitch of animated films I'm ashamed to have missed for so long. And I managed to see Titan A.E. and Treasure Planet for Chrissakes.

I am a huge Disney fan and I like this movie. I also don't have problems with other people liking it. Personally, I think that what we like or don't like are nobody's business but ourselves. The haters are going to run out of energy sooner or later. :)
Edited 2012-08-28 08:24 (UTC)

spoilers?

(Anonymous) 2012-08-28 11:44 am (UTC)(link)
Huh. I just rewatched this movie the other day.

I like this movie, but there are so many... I guess I want to say, missed opportunities in it? The pacing and plot takes so many screwy directions at times that it's jarring. And the lead-up to the giant badass jaguar just kind of... falls on its face. There are a lot of loose ends and to me, as a Disney fan, it just feels a bit unpolished? And that's a shame because I love the parts of it that succeed. (Many Disney movies are too.) I think in some cases though Disney has enough experience to tie up things or time sequences just right, even if their movies are more predictable because of it. It just doesn't feel like it's living up to its potential, and not just because of the shoehorned het romance or what-have-you.

It's a beautiful movie, it just feels like looking at a gangly awkward teenager instead of an adult, know what I mean?
