Man, for most of my fanfiction days back in the early 00's, the biggest and most popular archives required submission and were accepted/rejected by moderators on the basis of quality alone. Everyone was happy, especially me, because I didn't have to trawl ff.net looking for something readable.

The freaking out in the comments here about ELITISM and YOU DON'T PAY FOR IT is pretty hilarious. Part of the way the internet works is seeking out places that fit your needs. When a place begins to no longer fit your needs, it's frustrating.
