I have this weird thing where most people just automatically trust me and tell me their whole life stories and deepest secrets, usually after only knowing me for a short period of time, and without me asking for it even.

Does anyone else here have this trait? How do you feel about it if you do? Sometimes it is very nice to be trusted, but other times I find it rather stressful to know so many private things.

It depends on the person, but I have had people just talk to me about things before. Personally, I find it a bit rude to overshare about your life.

I find that it all comes down to confidence. If I'm making a point of keeping my head high and being really out there, people tend to do it more! People can be surprisingly quick to invest in a person who seems kind and trustworthy.

People used to do this to me.

Then I became a bitch.

People no longer do that.

I used to be the person that everyone came out to in a RPG I played like a dozen years ago. I don't know why (I wasn't officially out), but it was cool I could talk them through it since I'd been there.

I do! I like it. Well, I like to think that whatever people want to tell me, they feel better once the cat is out of the bag. I can see when someone is not okay but I don't push if they clearly don't want to talk. I hope it helps.

Yeah, people do that with me. It used to weird me out. But now I'm used to it and not bothered by it. Sometimes people just need to vent or feel like someone is listening when they don't get it from other people.

Haha, that happens to me too. It can be stressful but at the same time I really enjoy/appreciate it (I want to be a psychologist after all, so I guess I'd better haha). It's not really a mystery why it happens to me though, since I'm the kind of person who is just generally very friendly and calm and gives lots of affirmation, etc. The only thing that frustrates me about it is that the way I talk to people is very much focused on them and that's usually how the relationship stays. I only talk about myself with my very close friends whom I've know for years. I don't even talk about myself often to my boyfriend.

Nope, it's just me :) I only posted anon because I worried people would think I was weird or something. . .

That would suck if we had the ability to make fiction real and the Great Gatsby of all things was the first thing to come real.

That happens to me more often than I'd like. Still, it's better than the people who want me to critique their shit because "you're so honest!" and obviously expect me to lie.

I do. I get sick of it sometimes--helloooo, I don't want to know that about you or I don't even really know you, go away--but I decided if it was going to keep happening I might as well consciously harness my powers for good and get some money out of it. I completed my master's in counseling last year.

Now see, this is weird, because in my head I look like I have a >8< face all the time.

And then people find me really approachable and easy to talk to, and smile at me, and tell me stuff about themselves and I'm like "abuh?". And I don't mean "here and my hopes and dreams" kind of thing, but like really personal shit.

Do I have a therapy field surrounding me? Do I smell really good?

I have a lot of women do it, but rarely men. I'm sorta okay with it, but it can get really uncomfortable (as in the case of one lady I met spilling some really dark shit to me and I had no idea how to handle it).

If people do this to you, you're probably:

a) a girl
b) average looking or on the cute end of attractive
c) polite

Not that there aren't people who will tell their life story to anyone who will listen, but polite, average girls tend to get the worst of it, I've noticed. If you're built like a bull or likely to tell people to shut the hell up, obviously this is not usually your problem.

Define built like a bull. I'm a woman with very strong bone structure--"handsome" when people are being nice; "masculine" when they're being shitty--who's pushing 30, 5'5" and at my heaviest 250 lbs (currently hovering at 215). So am I built like a bull or just the fatted calf? People disclose insanely personal shit to me all the time.

I really don't think it has anything to do with looks. I think it's just a quality certain people have.

Idk it happens to my mom too and she is larger and she has absolutely no problem ever telling people to shut the hell up. I think it's just a quality people have.

My husband says that I have an invisible sign on my forehead that says "Tell me"... People are always confiding in me. :) Now I'm in training to be a mental health generalist. I'm good at listening, so I look forward to being in the field.

I dunno about deepest secrets, but people do just kinda talk to me--strangers on the subway, in the park, people at the movies, whatever. I have no idea why (my dad claims I have trustworthy-looking big doe eyes, but that's my dad), but as a writer I love it; I live in a big city and I basically collect characters all day long, so it's quite useful that people seem to like to chat with me.

No. My bff says I have a natural "fuck off" vibe.

I just wish people told me personal things when I'm not working in an official or professional capacity. Because I like knowing things (just because), but when when you are telling me all about instances of [really serious things that I can't report] while we are conducting unrelated business, it's really hard to remain appropriately sympathetic but simultaneously unbiased and uninterested.

Makes me long for the days of working in a dept store- where women just pulled down their pants and rucked up their shirts so I could figure out what brand of underwear they were wearing.

I've got the opposite - I seem to attract people who want to know about MY life story and deepest secrets. I tend to verbally run in the other direction and get more annoyed with every question asked.
