I was never embarrassed by my parents, or disapproving of their tastes in music and whatnot. Except for the occasional bigoted sideswipe at various peoples by my dad, i really liked my parents, had fun hanging out with them, and enjoyed learning about the things they liked. Even started liking some of them, myself.

I don't get being embarrassed by your parents unless they're doing something that would be embarrassing if done by *anyone*.

I was like this about my parents, too, except for their like for country music because I can't fucking stand that genre. But, for the most part, I either tolerated or liked most of their interests.

Maybe it helped that my parents were older (my mom was thirty when she had my older brother, my dad 38). Certainly older than most of my friend's parents.

And c'mon - radio-controlled model planes and My Fair Lady with Julie Andrews are *fun*! :)
