I think they are too different for one to be considered better, really. I have a preference for the Nolan movies because I think the storytelling and characterization is better.

However I do miss some of the designs from the Burton films. I like how Gotham looks better. And the Batmobile, oh how I hate the design for the Nolan Batmobile, it's so damn ugly!

I find in general though that I do not like Burton as much as I want to because pure whimsy doesn't do it for me. Which is why the only Burton movie I absolutely love is Big Fish, which has some grounding to it.

Everyone feels the need to compare the two though, and I admittedly do have a preference for the Nolan movies, so I don't want to lie about it.

IDK if I agree on Gotham looking better but on the Batmobile, damn straight; that was a hot-ass vehicle. I like Nolan's version, but it isn't pretty at all.

I enjoy some of Burton's films, but I'm not a huge fan either. Whimsy can be fun imo, but whimsical Batman just doesn't interest me as much as a more 'realistic' approach. At least when it comes to the films. Yea, I know I'm one of the few...

I can understand the need to compare them but I really don't think there is any way to objectively say one is better than the other.

I like Batman a bit more grounded in reality, as least as much of a reality as it can be, given some of the things that happen in his world. But I also don't read comics or sci-fi or fantasy to be as escapist as some.

Yea, I wouldn't objectively say one is better than the other. And of course everyone has different opinions and that's okay. *shrugs*

I do like the escapism factor myself, but even the more realistic comics aren't completely realistic, as you mention.
