(Anonymous) 2012-08-30 09:10 pm (UTC)(link)I went to a Modern Orthodox dayschool, and was raised in a Conservative (as in the movement), traditional home that practiced kashrut. And I would love to see a fictional character that's an observant Jew -- Orthodox or otherwise -- with Judaism being an integral part of their identity. Because really, it's a frickin' fascinating religion, and I really like some of the ethical answers it has to offer...even if I don't think the source of those answers is actually Divine.
I don't think that people with only a Jewish father should be considered gentiles by default, but there is a subset of Jews that do believe that. (The OP, for example.) So why can't we have that addressed as a point of conflict once in a while?
