Yeah I have the same problem, I mean canonically he's like 40 so that has some ~hotness~ potential but for salarians 40 years is old as shit. But nobody wants to draw icky old people or something.

I'm not really a fan of humanizations of the Mass Effect aliens in general, honestly. They always just feel wrong to me for this or that reason...

Also, it irritates the piss out of me to know that people do human fanart of the aliens. Seriously? The point, you're missing it.

No, they're not. Alien faces have no meaning for us (excusing asari). Depicting them as humans is an interesting exercise in giving them a face meaningful to humans. For instance, design-wise, Ariel the Little Mermaid looks youthful and exuberant. Superman looks strong, heroic, capable, and kind. Gandalf looks wise. But Garrus doesn't look like anything. He just looks like a turian. Trying to match up a human face to his personality and turian design is an interesting challenge that is obviously interesting to fans.

If you're an artist it's fun to look at the facial traits/personality of an alien/non-human and try and figure out what they would look like as a person. It's a fun way to practice different facial features, Christ.

Don't ever google "gijinka" or your rage meter might explode.

Human versions of mass effect aliens are my biggest weakness. I don't even know why I love them as much as I do. They're just so cool.

Agreed about the old thing, though tbh I don't get human versions of aliens anyway. There's no appeal in that for me; I like them as is.

*shrugs* If other people enjoy it, that's fine, but no matter how 'hot' they are, I'm not interested. (Plus, they're hot as is!)

AGREED! I mean, the designers said they looked at Clint Eastwood as a reference for Mordin. That should be a dead giveaway, lol.

Wrex has the same problem as well, he's around 400-700 years old, definitely not a young Krogan.

Isn't Wrex closer to a thousand? I seem to recall something during Grunt's loyalty mission about it being (almost?) a thousand years since a krogan last actually killed a Thresher Maw during their rite of passage, and that krogan was Wrex.

It's not specified it was a thousand years from what I can find about who mentions it, just that it was "generations". Though the point is still that he's old, so eh, doesn't matter too much really. Still shouldn't be drawn like he's a twenty-something.

If he must be humanized, I kind of imagine him as a wrinklier Egon (Ghostbusters). Actually, someone might have drawn that if I recall.

But generally, humanizations of the Mass Effect aliens aren't something I care for. While it can be interesting to imagine, a lot of the fascination with them, IS their alien-ness to begin with.

Man, I wish being old weren't such a taboo in fandom. It makes me wonder if all the people who said they'd romance him also thought of him as a young man. :\

I think of Mordin as an old dude but I think I'd probably still be totally interested in romancing him. Not sure if I'd romance him over Kaidan or Garrus first (Garrus is my favorite, but I was loyal to Kaidan through all three games because I couldn't see my Shep changing her mind and cheating on Kaidan), but I'd definitely be interested since he's one of my favorite characters in the franchise overall, and he's also a pretty cool dude.

Anyway. Yeah, I agree. That third one, especially--what is up with the Calvin Klein Mordin? That's not even how I'd imagine him young. It's like the artist didn't give two shits about their characters, and just wanted to draw hot guys. He looks quite a bit like Arcade Gannon.

Apparently from top left to bottom right it's Garrus, Wrex, Grunt, Liara, Samara, Thane, Mordin, Tali, Javik, Legion, and EDI. I had no clue on a few of them either (and Garrus' scars being on the wrong side doesn't help...)
