I nearly lost an eye when I was nine. I was lying on my back out in the garden one day just minding my own business when my grandparents' dog wandered over to have a look at me (the sweetest, softest, most gentle dog in the world, this creature: she'd be too afraid of a fly to hurt it) and accidentally stepped on my face. I now have a deep scar from her claws touching the outside corner of my eye: less than a quarter of an inch further and my eye would've been completely gone. The scar looks pretty cool, though.
