Notes:

Important: I'm really sorry about this, but I accidentally clicked the wrong thing and deleted the submission post from last week instead of saving it. Managed to save the first page (25) of secrets, but the rest (a bit over 100) are gone.

If you submitted something last week (Aug 26-Sept 1), please resubmit it here and it will still go up this week.

The submissions post for next week is linked below as usual.

[The City of Dreaming Books]

(Anonymous) 2012-09-01 08:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Heh, my favourite book. Yeah, I would want that too (and I'm a librarian by profession)! I keep shipping Hildegunst and the Shadow Prince..I don't know why.

(Anonymous) 2012-09-02 04:43 am (UTC)(link)
*waves hand* Fellow librarian here. So, is it good? I felt just by the secret's illustration that I need this book in my life.

(Anonymous) 2012-09-02 01:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, I ship this like burning. I just wish there was a fandom for the books.

(Anonymous) 2012-09-03 09:13 am (UTC)(link)
I have this book (kinda because of me being (another) librarian), and I just can't make myself to read it (kinda because of me being (another) librarian). I'm not making any sense.

(Anonymous) 2012-09-01 08:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Eeeee! Someone besides me has read this book! <3

SOMEONE ELSE HAS READ THIS BOOK??!?!!

OMG. I want to live there SO BADLY. Also, that book is absolute genius for absolutely everything it is. Especially the part where the main characters are dinosaurs. And the wordplay... the wordplay throughout the whole thing is just delicious.

....and by the way there's a sequel being released in English this November. It's already available for preorder on Amazon.

Of course someone else has read this book. This was a German bestseller for almost a year.
gethenian: (Nick Cave)

This book is in my top 10 favourites.

Two of my favourite bands:
Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds
Einsturzende Neubauten
both featuring Blixa Bargeld as a member.

My favourite movie of all time, ranked so high above anything else I've ever seen that it's simply its own category of genius, is Der Himmel Uber Berlin (called Wings of Desire in English).

It's curious that a lot of my favourite things in entertainment are German, yet I am American with no surviving German heritage (I have some German ancestry, but that side of my family is not close, any German culture we had has either died out with my grandparents or remains as family traditions no one actually knows are German in origin).

Just want to note you that the sequel ends on a cliffhanger. I don't mind that the whole thing isn't finished in a one book but I wished I had some warning when I read it.

(Anonymous) 2012-09-03 12:15 pm (UTC)(link)
You do know that this counts as a spoiler? :/

(Anonymous) 2012-09-03 07:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, maybe. But alot of people kinda expected an end and weren't aware there was another book coming, because it couldn't be finished on time. It's really frustrating if you don't know

(Anonymous) 2012-09-01 10:25 pm (UTC)(link)
That's a good book. Although the German names are unfamiliar to me. If I was in Bookholm, though, I would probably avoid the catacombs and just freak out in an entire city of bookstores.

Really lucky, in a way: I found a copy of City of Dreaming Books in a pile of free stuff in my dorm that people didn't want to take with them when they moved out at the end of the year. I grabbed it basically on a whim and it actually ended up being really good, it was a really pleasant surprise. So, thanks to whichever person decided they didn't need that book anymore, I wish I knew who you were so we could geek out about it. Sincerely, me.

If I went to Bookholm I'd probably find myself very quickly dead. XD So... not sure if want to go to Bookholm...

I understood those words. My German is paying off.

Heeey, reading that series sounds like a good way to practice.

I love this book!!!

(Anonymous) 2012-09-02 01:05 am (UTC)(link)
This looks like an amazing series. Thank you, OP, for introducing this!

(Anonymous) 2012-09-02 01:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Yay, City of Dreaming Books Secret! I think most of the readers would agree with you, OP! Also, I want to taste the stuff from the Alchemasters Apprentice. NOM NOM NOM.

(Anonymous) 2012-09-03 09:05 am (UTC)(link)
This book has been on my shelf about for one and a half year now, still almost untouched. I think it's time to correct this mistake.

(Anonymous) 2012-09-04 01:31 am (UTC)(link)
I'm an absolute biblophile and I couldn't get into that book... what am I doing wrong?
I feel so bad... I've read like 100 pages or so... Until some pages after we heard about that famous explorer and something... I can't recall quite right...
