That's actually the main reason that I (not the OP) dislike the show - I knew people like that in college. A lot of them have not changed in five, six years. Once you've had to deal with someone like Sheldon in real life - someone who is bitter, petty, pedantic, very much an Aspie and proud of it (clinically diagnosed, this was before the advent of the internet!Aspie), who would throw an absolute fit like a ten year old if things weren't going their way, constantly belitted and talked down to the people he claimed were friends .... yeah, the show really isn't that funny anymore.

The specific person you're talking about definitely does sound like an inconsiderate ass, but I don't think there's anything wrong with being "proud" of being an aspie. Although I wouldn't say "proud," more like "not ashamed" or "not hiding it." I think that person having Asperger's and being an ass were most likely separate issues.
