Notes:

Important: I'm really sorry about this, but I accidentally clicked the wrong thing and deleted the submission post from last week instead of saving it. Managed to save the first page (25) of secrets, but the rest (a bit over 100) are gone.

If you submitted something last week (Aug 26-Sept 1), please resubmit it here and it will still go up this week.

The submissions post for next week is linked below as usual.

I saw Paranorman today, and....

I loved it. I thought I wouldn't, going in, after listening to a lot of critics talk about it (Like Spill.com and whatnot) and I just, I did not agree with them at all. I laughed at parts so hard I cried, and I loved the dialogue. The whole thing was so...raw. It was everything I'd hoped for :s I feel so alone in this opinion, though.

what are you talking about? paranorman has been getting a shit ton of love from folks on the internet(hell, it even got 86% on rotten tomatoes. not bad at all). I mean, my god, the paranorman tag on tumblr is insane about the movie.

From what I've seen, most people said they were disappointed with it. Huh.

I watched it today as well! I loved it. There's so much about it that I love! I have a small nitpick with it, but it's nothing major that took away my enjoyment. I just felt the story was lacking a bit? Or maybe it wasn't as "atmospheric" as "Coraline"? I can't quite put my finger on it, but I still loved it to bits. I also liked that my 8 year old niece loved it. She likes the darker stuff and she wants me to take her to see "Frankenweenie" as well. I'm just not sure if I'll like that one as much as this one.

Frankenweenie....I don't think I will, either, after seeing the trailer :( I'm just disappointed that the main character's puppet looks like a child victor from Corpse Bride. It just sort of smacks of laziness on Burton's part.

I was thinking the same thing with the design of the main character. That and "lazy" seems to be Burton lately. =(

Yeah, I haven't really liked any of his new films. Even when he's producing, like on 9, I just...didn't like them that much. :s It's a shame, since stopmotion is so rarely used. He has such interesting character designs, I'm sad that he's just rehashing now.

Frankenweenie? No, that's Tim Burton. It's a stopmotion remake of his 80's short film by the same name.

Laika helped with "Corpse Bride" but they didn't do "Frankenweenie". "Frankenweenie" I believe is from Burton's own production company. "Frankenweenie" was a short film Burton made early in his Disney days. It was live action but he had always really wanted to make it stop motion. Now that he's made a name for himself Burton finally has been able to make "Frankenweenie" in stop motion.
"Coraline" is a Henry Selick film adapted from a Neil Gaiman book that Laika worked exclusively on (just like "Paranorman").
