It doesn't help to hear it from anyone else, I know, but things do gradually get better with time and in the end the happy stories are the ones that really stay with you.

It was really one of those moments where you act without thinking: she was pretty much my little sister and the only thing I remember thinking about as I went after her was annoyance at my parents for laughing, if I recall. I'm sure she'd have been fine without any help, but instinct doesn't always work that way (still, I was kind of annoyed when she went right back in the second time...)

Yeah, that's usually the case. It can be hard to strike a balance between just letting yourself grieve and letting yourself be overwhelmed by it at first, but it does get easier with time.

And I know what you mean. Logic doesn't always come into play when your loved ones are in danger or at least seem to be. But I think it's better to take action and have it turn out to have been unnecessary than to not act and find that you were wrong not to do so, you know?
