(Anonymous) 2012-09-03 08:41 pm (UTC)(link)If you think Loki's a more interesting character than Natasha, then you must think Loki is a more interesting character than EVERY Avenger (with the possible exception of Tony and maybe Steve). Still not an explanation.

(Anonymous) 2012-09-03 10:20 pm (UTC)(link)What we know about Natasha: she worked for the bad guys, killing people, and was very good at it. SHIELD sent Clint to kill her, but he didn't. She joined SHIELD and now she's trying to make up for everything she did in the past.
Who trained her? Who did she kill? Are any of those people going to want revenge at some point? What about her made Clint decide not to kill her? Why didn't she just kill him when he didn't kill her? Why did she join SHIELD? What happened during all those incidents? Who did she work for before? Is love really for children, or does she love someone? Clint? The Winter Soldier? Someone else? Does she really think she can make up for everything she's done?

(Anonymous) 2012-09-04 12:19 am (UTC)(link)It's a comic book movie. NONE of the characters are deeper than they appear.
There's a reason Natasha and Clint didn't get their own set-up films for the 'Avengers.' Prior to the film's release, there was no way to make either of those characters engaging enough to sustain a whole film. Perhaps Marvel might be able to do something starring either of them now, but they're minor characters, unpowered people in a super-powered universe.
Any Super-Powered Marvel Hero/Heroine>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Romanov or Barton.
See? I can make my opinion look like fact, too.

Um, no? It's actually exactly the opposite. In comic book movies all characters are deeper than they appear because the screenwriters adapt their character from decades of continuity to fit 2 hours of screentime. That's a big reason why I like comic book movies so much more than most action movies.

LOL You're cute.
Because you need your favorite characters to be all flash and bang does not mean everyone else has to agree with you. The challenge of being a superhero without all that flashy magic/tech/whathaveyou is very interesting to MANY fans.
But whatever, anon. Have fun with your dismissal of the only female (and on that note, only POC character, since you can't possibly find Nick Fury interesting either since OMG HE CAN'T BLOW SHIT UP WITH HIS EYE OR ANYTHING!) character we've been introduced to. Bravo.

Also, *pets you*. It's cool to like Loki better. It's not cool to say that because Loki is better, Natasha should be left out of merchandising or fan art or whatever. Those two things are not the same.

Just joshing ya, Anon. No, no one in fandom is obligated to do anything really. :) The secret is about how the OP judges people who purport to post a photo set of the Avengers and leave out Natasha. I also judge. I think it do sayeth a thing or do two about the poster, and I'd extrapolate for my own self to people who purport to draw team fic art of the Avengers and leave out Natasha (or Clint as some have mentioned, or Bruce or Tony or Cap or you know. Any of the Avengers. Who are Avengers.)

(Anonymous) 2012-09-04 12:14 am (UTC)(link)And you know, the people with a hateboner for Loki need to STFU, too. People are allowed to like a character you don't without you being a dick about it.
*loves the whole cast*

As someone who has only seen the Avengers and just the first Iron Man movie, I had no expectations, and I have to say, Black Widow was one of the better characters and I didn't take to Loki much since throughout the film. At first, I just thought he was an annoying dick. I only started to like him because I run with the crowd who does and I've since adopted their fondness for him through fanart.
I can understand just liking the guys on a really shallow level, because I get like that too. But to pass it off as something based on the merits of character, as in "oh, I didn't include Black Widow because she doesn't do much and she's a fanservicey character"... it doesn't reflect well on you. Besides, from what I've seen, fanservice features more Captain America, Iron Man, Thor, and Loki than Black Widow...
Another reason why I'd like to see Black Widow included more in the team dynamic, however small? None of the guys are redheads, so she fills that slot for me.
