also +1 to this entire comment--i agree that he's a huge dick and would probably avoid the fuck out of him irl. but just because i can't justify his behavior doesn't stop me from being interested in his character or his relationships with other people haha.

and on only a vaguely related note: op, i hope you like elementary! :D

augustbird augustbird augustbird did you see the leaked pilot?! I was hesitant but JOHNNY LEE MILLER HOLMES IS ADORABLE AND FANTASTIC AND OH HE IS A DICK BUT ALSO PUPPYDOG EYES. He has BEES ON THE ROOF and Joan likes BASEBALL and she has a HAT AND SHE SQUEES. And she is COMPETENT :D

It is definitely flawed, but I expect that out of a pilot you should watch it if you haven't :D

i thought the case was a little "wtf this crime makes no sense why" but i'm in love with this interpretation of the dynamic between watson & holmes and I PRETTY MUCH CAN'T EVEN WITH JLM'S HOLMES. HE'S LIKE A PUPPY. A GIANT PUPPY WITH ALL OF THAT ENERGY JUST BOUNCING AROUND AND HIS FACIAL EXPRESSIONS AND THAT SCENE WHERE HE'S LIKE "THERE'S A SAFEROOM *BALLERINA PRANCE TOWARDS GREGSON*" i'm pretty sure i was chinhanding the entire episode in between all of the incoherent keyboardsmash to my friend aksldjfsad. it really reminds me more of the rdj sherlock than the bbc's and i kind of love it because it's just so fun and adorable. AND THAT LAST SCENE Y/Y??? :DDDDDDDDD

though part of my adoration might just be that i'm identifying with lucy liu's watson too much--same career interests, same heritage, similar temperaments irl ajkshdjfkasdf /o\

I LOL'd at the rice allergy ex machina, but I don't honestly find Sherlock's plots any more plausible than I found Elementary's, so it didn't really bother me.

He reminds me of a mix between BBC and RDJ Holmes, both of whom I LOVE so it made me extremely happy. I sat straight through the whole thing squeeing. YES THE LAST SCENE. And their dynamic is very sweet at the end, I love how he puts on her jacket and it's not SHIPPY it's all friendly and the handcuffs which makes me happy because he WOULD WOULDN'T HE. "Did she get you high?" "About six feet" LOL. It's just so light spirited, it doesn't take itself too seriously, like you and I both said it's really just like a puppy show like "wheeee solving crimes Sherlock Holmes having wacky adventures in New York! Look Sherlock threw a tantrum and puppy dog eyes! DRAMATIC MOMENT BUT THEN HONEY CEILING AND BASEBALL." He's just so goddamn ENDEARING. The one thing I have to say is I wish Liu emoted a little more, but I still like their chemistry and I quite like her character and I look forward to watching their relationship grow. I love how she's her own person!

it's totally ok to identify with a character that's so cool that you guys are so similar! you can pretend you are adventuring with holmes IN LIFE ALL THE TIME yes this is why more strong women characters need to be on tv

lmao are we the same person??? i still have no idea what any of the motivations behind asib were & some parts of tgg/trf made me tilt my head. i feel as if sometimes the writers purposefully try to make things unclear so that a viewer walks away with "oh man that was really well done even though i didn't really quite get what was happening but that's probably because i was too stupid to understand what was happening in the episode but i'm not going to admit that i didn't get it because everyone else was probably smart enough to get it" when in reality nope, just questionable writing. i love most of the characters & the artistic qualities of the show and also the creative way fandom has expanded the source material but sometimes the canon just exasperates me. /o\

YES ALSO I LOVE HOW ELEMENTARY ISN'T TAKING ITSELF SERIOUSLY AT ALL. :DDDDD i'm actually intrigued by some of the inconsistencies in his character we've seen so far: the way he pushes at the witness vs. the way he censors himself at first with joan re: not being a surgeon any more. i really think (or at least i hope!) that the reason why he left london were a lot more complex than being ~burned by a woman~ and i'm also hoping that the circumstances surrounding joan's departure from being a surgeon are also going to be explored more because there has to be something else there--you don't get your medical license stripped unless something big happened since doctors, esp surgeons, pay out their eyeballs for malpractice insurance. plus competent!joan picking up on clues aslkdjfaklsd i love this show already *_______* and i think i'm okay with joan being kind of stoic for now because i'm hoping that as she trusts sherlock more, she'll also start to open up. if the pilot follows fairly soon from when she was dismissed, it makes sense to me that she'd be fairly closed off and retreating into herself to deal with depression & feelings of inadequacy. it might end up being a parallel to bbc--sherlock pulling john/joan back into having a purpose and enjoying life again--i think saw a glimpse of that when holmes was in jail actually, when she was looking at him and demanding to be let in on his plans.

tl;dr - I THINK I'M FAR TOO INVESTED IN A SHOW WHERE I'VE ONLY SEEN THE PILOT LEAK /o\

YES GOOD SUBSTITUTE HOLMES EXPERIENCE UNTIL I FIND MY REAL LIFE ONE
