I had a teacher who made us analyze Simon and Garfunkel, too. And Dylan. And a couple of other '60s folksingers. Look I'm all for the "lyrics can be poetry" thing, and I actually like hippie music myself, but if you want to make a case for poetry maybe try something other than the stuff you liked in college? It's not as profound as you thought it was when you were smoking pot.

Well, it was mostly that my 7th grade teacher was a horrible teacher and was so ignorant that she didn't realize that, for our acrostic poem, a girl plagarized "L-O-V-E" by Nat King Cole. So glad she didn't teach for long at my middle school

That... that isn't even an acrostic poem! *weeps*

and yeah she reminds me of the english teacher who burned our summer essay assignments in the fireplace because she was sick of having to grade them (she didn't last long either.)
