My interest in this novel dried up years ago but these recent chapters are what drew me back. While I'm really uncertain about Kishimoto's ability to handle this well, it's something I've kind of come to expect since the theory was first presented by fans a long time ago.

However, and here is where I'm going to get into some possible major spoilers, I have to wonder why anyone would believe a word this character is saying. He's been shown in the past to be a huge manipulator both to Sasuke and Itachi. And now he's using those same tactics on Kakashi. I think he's a master bullshitter who knows how to screw with people's emotions. It's also worth noting that he says repeatedly "If that's the name you want to call me" as a means of separating himself from the body he's residing in. I really doubt the explanation he gave in this latest chapter is the truth. For me, if Kishimoto goes this route, it'll be a lot easier to accept.

But who knows what Kishimoto really has in mind.

Well, Madara called him Obito. That should be confirmation enough.

Madara hasn't really done anything to prove he's a very trustworthy source though. Plus, if he's in on it, he wouldn't divulge any helpful secrets to the enemy. Point being, there's still an opportunity for this to work without being utterly tragically stupid... but I also know it's doubtful. So if my face hurts from cringing too much at the upcoming chapters, oh well. I'll just end up quitting the manga again.

I don't remember the last time Madara lied. Tobi? Yeah. Madara? Nah.

Besides, we got the flashbacks from Obito's point of view last chapter.

I don't see how Tobi being somebody else is gonna be any better. If Rin was the only reason he went evil... yeah, that would be bad. But it's clear that's not the only reason. I don't know why so many people are ignoring that.

Me neither because I don't believe this actually has anything to do with Rin's death. I'm still thinking Obito is either completely brainwashed or someone else is just using his body. The only other explanation I'm willing to accept is that Kishimoto is tired of this manga and is purposely making it terrible.

I'm going for a corrupted Obito that was brainwashed into thinking the only way to achieve peace was through genjutsu. Rin was just a trigger.

Well, considering how bad the past few arcs have been... :/

Naruto is the Chosen One who will save the world. His parents were special, his ancestors were special, his mom's bloodline is special, he's likely the second coming of the person that creating the ninja way... and so on. Even the Kyuubi is overwhelmed by his goodness, so having a tailed beast inside him is not a problem anymore.

I agree, I don't think it will be this easy. We never had any indication that Kakashi blamed himself for Rin's death, only Obito's. I have the feeling that he was not responsible for it or he would start looking more freaked out instead of calmer at that "revelation".
